Meet The Maker: Timber Alley

With creativeness in their blood (Shalom is a woodworker and Dana is an architect) they are the perfect couple to take the very cool world of chopping boards & serving platters by storm!

Meet The Maker: Timber Alley

Tell us about yourself and what you do at the EPM?

We have a stall which specialises in handmade Australian Camphor Laurel oversized chopping boards and serving platters. Each board is one of a kind in its organic design, timber grain and size. And of course, each board is made with a lot of love!

When did you first know you wanted to be creative?

We have both always been creative in our own right - Shalom is a woodworker and Dana an architect. Timber Alley evolved out of our desire to align our talents and create beautiful pieces of art.

Describe your perfect day...

A perfect day starts with coffee!! Followed by a walk with our 4th and 5th child (our dogs). And then a free uninterrupted day in our workshop.

What is your best ever creative moment?

Our favourite creative moment is when we first receive a delivery of timber and inspecting the various grains of the slabs - the natural beauty of the timber is all the inspiration we need.

Describe a lesson you learnt from a creative failure...

Quality is key. Trying to cut corners at any stage of the creative process always comes back to bite you.

What's the scariest movie you have ever seen?

Aliens will forever remain the scariest movie - and maybe the only movie we wont let our kids watch.

What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?

We have both always tried to live our lives based on the principal that 'life is short'.
Accordingly taking risks, being spontaneous and listening to our gut instinct comes easily.

What's your fav tunes to get your creative juices flowing?

Any Blues tune!

What do you love most about the EPM?

The EPM is a very special place. There is a sense of peace, creativity and excitement in the air amongst both the stallholders and the visitors which we have not found at any other marketplace.

Where do you see your business in the next 5 years?

To be honest, we are happy for our business to simply continue as it is...for us to continue raising our family and being able to work together in a creative and successful fashion.

+ You can catch Timber Alley at every EPM this season including the Australia Day Foreshore Festival!
